The house is designed for a family of 3 generations at Baluchar Bazar, Munshiganj. Munshiganj is famous for its Mughal era mosque, old brick temples, vihara & beautiful brick houses of Jamidar Bari, etc. Also, a lightweight prototype Dry Construction technique is very popular in the region for its flood-prone areas.

CHITTHI is inspired from the both architectural context and conceived as a fusion of the contemporary & the vernacular.

The volume derived from the old centurian old brick ancestry of Vikrampur–Munshiganj region & also taken the characteristics of modular door, wooden railing with the intricate craftsmanship & use of their own motif in a distinguished manner.

The house is designed for creating memories thing connection with its surroundings & the houses within. It’s placed in within a family compound of relatives.

Large terraces, verandas, garden, stairs etc. are placed against the family compound. Connectivity within the house is ensured by an open-to-sky court & an internal connecting void that stitched all the major spaces of the home.

Living, dining & gathering spaces along with the services are placed in ground level, while the more private spaces like family living, library, private gym & bedrooms are placed in the upper levels.A swimming pool placed in the roof reduce the heat gain the roof.An intimate gallery with garden area placed alongside the pool area to gather & gossip.

North & south side has more opening to cater diffused sunlight & southern breeze while the eastern face has fewer rational amount of openings. The western facade is blocked by a brick jali wall which blocks the western sun & also provides phenomenal lighting ambience in a triple-height void which connects most of the social gathering spaces.

Handmade clay bricks are selected for this project. A monolithic expression desired to achieve thing thus pointing mud brick dust-based rendering of the surface. Terracotta work is done delicately in the open semi open areas to get a more human crafted warm finish. Involvement of the artisans with the project is one of the prime concerns. Doors, windows, screens, railings etc. are made of timber. Traditional technique motifs of the region used all over.
