The Project, Haji Masud Ali Filling Station, located at Khayerpur Uttar and Raigadara Balaganj, Sylhet, Bangladesh, a composition of operations, that goes beyond its obligatory functionalities. Typically seen in our country, a filling station only provides fuel facility and with minimal supporting ancillary facilities. In this design of Model filling station, the approach was based on the concept of creating an example of how a filling station can be; going beyond the basic operational requirements, keeping in my mind, the range of users and the means of their needs.
The concept of the design generated by taking in multiple dimensions of the anticipated programs. The project is located on the Dhaka – Sylhet highway, thus demanding a distinguished character of the structure. The design is approached through clarity in Form, Function and Circulation – simple yet bold. The character of Canopy is designed such that it stands out both day and night, an afloat body of light.
Employing local vendors and simple construction techniques - hollow blocks, wood shuttered concrete allowed a play of light and shadow and a breathable leisure spaces. Complementing the grey concrete, greenery is embraced into the complex, celebrating an interplay with nature.
The project determines solution to complex circulation of various vehicles. Apart from their designated parking’s, there are facilities for the drivers, other customers and other services needed for highway transportation.
Facilities – Restaurant, Prayer & ablution space, Kids play area, Kitchen, Toilets, ATM, Owner’s cabin, Offices and a Medical unit.
