The Concept Of Prison Has Been Addressed Through Many Perspectives. For Example, Moreso, Sykes (1958), Goffman, (1961) And Okunola, (1986) Conceived Prison As Where People Are Highly Secluded From The Rest Of The World With Entirely New Order Of Control. It Is A Place To Rehabilitate And Teach Offenders To Be Law Abiding And Productive After The Release.

Rigorous Imprisonment Means Imprisonment With Labor. It Was Understood That Imprisonment With Hard Labor Would Scarcely Operate As A Prevention Of Crime.

The ‘Workshop Area’ in Old Dhaka Central Jail is situated in a prime location consists of some one storied buildings. After entering through the main jail gate one can get to see the workshop area at first where they will start to sense the jail environment.

There are three linear courts in between the four main buildings shaded with trees. The actual age of the buildings could not be identified but the design of the structures and building materials confirms its strong resemblance with colonial buildings. Massive structural load bearing walls, Corrugated iron sheet roof, wooden rafter-purlin roof stricture, metal truss sections etc. which have been found in all buildings in workshop zone make this space more unique.
